On April 13 - 16, 2000, the IETM 2000 Praha Annual Plenary was organised by the Theatre Institute in Prague and the Archa Theatre. The Ministry of Culture of Czech Republic and Capital City Prague were co-organizers; the Plenary Meeting of IETM was a part of the project Prague - European City of Culture 2000.
IETM (Informal European Theatre Meeting) is the most active and the largest organization of this type in the world, which brings together professional artists and institutions in area of contemporary theatre and dance. The members of IETM include directors of theatres, theatre festivals, dance groups, director of theatre institutions, representatives of various Ministries, foundations, associations, etc. There are approximately 500 members of IETM, not only from Europe, but now from every continent of the world. The aim of IETM is to create a space for communication between its individual members.
More than 400 participants visited this year's IETM Plenary in Prague (from this, over 100 participants were from the Czech Republic) together from 39 countries (apart from Europe, participants came from Canada, South Africa, Tchai-wan, USA and Tunisia). Thanks to this, it became the largest Plenary Meeting in the history of IETM. Within the framework of the working groups, such themes about the Europe Union and Culture, Club Culture, International Cultural Support for Central and Eastern Europe, Repertory Theatre, New Media, the Use of Electronic Instruments in Culture Organizations and many others were discussed.
The accompanying programme of the IETM Meeting in Prague was entitled Four Nights. It presented not only Czech, but also foreign artists from several genres. During this programme, 202 artists from the Czech Republic, Estonia, Croatia, Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, Italy, France, England, Israel and Hungary performed. All 31 performances were sold out and it was received well by the participants of the IETM Plenary. The participants also had the opportunity to see two exhibitions: in the NO D Gallery above the Roxy experimental space, Live Art Symposim - New Biolers and Other Non-Traditional Theatre Spaces (exhibition of photographs and video-portraits of young artist in the Kotelna Fišlovka space), and also the Czech Theatre Photography of the Nineties exhibition, which presented the works of leading Czech photographers, was found in the Archa Theatre, Černá Labuť Gallery and also the Café Imperial, which was opened by the organizers for the participants of IETM.
